Have you ever accompanied someone to the ER and of course have to wait in the waiting room? What do you do? bite your nails, pace up and down, chase down random doctors to try and get ANY feedback from the ER, curse and try to negotiate with God. Have you ever prayed every prayer you know how to pray and still nothing forth coming? Yes that is what I like to call the Nothing phase. It compares to the waiting room in so many ways! The nothing phase is the season in your life where nothing is happening. You start to experience bitterness, anger, resentment and finally you give up.
During our college days my pal and I used to live at what we liked to call the 'edge of our monies' you know spending your last coin and then we would wonder if we would make it to the finals (closing day), and the wait to closing day would definitely be so, so long! (Irrelevant but I hated waiting even if I gobbled up my money in one week!) Sometimes you have done all you have to do and you don't see any sign of light at the end of the tunnel. The most reasonable thing to do is to throw in the towel and give up. But what we forget is receiving from God is a PROCESS that takes time, A LOT of time. We live in a world where everything is pap and fast, fast food, internet, aeroplanes etc and we expect that God will work in the same way. Newsflash honey, with God you have to be TESTED and TRIED. Stripped completely naked until there is no you left.
So how do you get through this nothing phase without looking like a train run you over?
Endurance: First thing you need is endurance. Yes am a
Stop Murmuring!
Be greatful for your current season. God really despises a heart that murmurs, a heart that likes to complain. Yes your current job sucks, your spouse is the worst person on earth or you are broker than a church mouse. It was not in God's plan to keep the Israelites in the wilderness for that long, but they always complained about everything, refer to Exodus 15: 24 and Exodus 16:2. Paul warned about this in 1st Cor 10:10 nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer. Be content and most importantly, stay faithful!
Waiting upon the Lord
This seems crazy uh? Nothing is happening in my life why should I continue to wait? Waiting is not intended to make you grow weary. It is intended to make you STRONGER. Isaiah 40:31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
It's like a sharpener that's meant to make your faith in God stronger. Call upon God, fast and pray and most importantly repent and turn away from your sinful ways. It doesn't matter if people ask where your Jesus is, just keep on keeping on.
Faith:
Faith is the ability to call things that are not as though they were. Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Sometimes you are planning on doing something big, but everyone is thrashing your idea and think you are crazy. When it comes to pass you ask yourself, what if I had dared to dream bigger? Have faith that whatever you have asked for from God he is faithful to give. If you ask for stone, he will give stone, if you ask for cake he will give you cake.
Thanksgiving.
This is the biggest and I can say most important part of waiting. Start praising God and thanking Him even before you see the results. Every prayer that Jesus prayed was thanksgiving. We can learn from Him and give thanks even before we actually receive, see how about you thank God for the open doors even though when you look around you all you see are closed doors? 1st Thes 5:18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
The Certainty of God’s Promise
It doesn't matter how long you stay in the nothing phase. God's promises are yes and amen, and whatever he says He will do, believe Him he will Do it. Numbers 23:19 God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfil it?
Remember, its not about you that He should do things your way, be still and know that he is God, so LET GO and LET GOD.
